Living in Aiken

  • Timothy O'Briant
Tim O'Briant is the News Director of the Aiken Standard. His wife Sharyn is a teacher at Kennedy Middle School and he has two sons who both attend Aiken County Public Schools.
  • Susan Elder
Susan writes all about the rich soil and lifestyle of Aiken County South Carolina and offers loads of great gardening tips to boot.
  • Mike Gibbons
Mike is the news editor of the Aiken Standard. In what little spare time he has, this husband and father of two takes a comical look at the world around him.

Local Politics

  • Kaolin Kronicle
An anonymous group of editors takes on the establishment and Smart Growth advocates at this rough and tumble site that holds nothing back.
  • The Aiken Journal
Aiken City Councilman Dick Smith and members of Smart Growth Aiken edit this site and make frequent contributions about local issues. The other editor is Marianne Pecoraro and contributors are Dick Baxter and Walter Lamb.

Diversions

  • Haley Hughes
Haley comes to us from the great state of Tennessee, and has recently volunteered for the Women Build program with Habitat for Humanity. Join her as she discovers that it may be a man's world, but it's a women's build.
  • Shana's Soaps
Shana Donahue is newsroom clerk for the Aiken Standard. In her leisure time, Shana loves to watch soap operas almost as much as she likes to blog about them here.

My family and i have been looking and looking for a place to relocate to where we can buy a home with a little bit of property for my horse and not owe a mortgage. we thought we had found a little bit of heaven in aiken - the natural beauty, lots of horses, an excellent hospital, a university etc until i came upon information about the savannah river site! oops! how do you folks living there feel about the situation? especially since aiken is in a relatively active earthquate zone. b.

Here are two blogs run by professional athletes who call Aiken home:

http://www.shawnaharding.com/category/news/ (International-level Dressage rider and trainer)

not a blog yet but we will start running polls and comments in the future.

This is my web page.

Please add my site.  The description follows:

Welcome to the pre-eminent blog for suburban sistas interested in literature, politics, art, music and other cultural pursuits. My blog will feature book reviews by prominent and rising African-American authors, as well as excerpts of my own soon-to-be-published works. Occasionally, you may find anecdotes and advice on parenting African-American children in suburbia, especially when my own are providing me with excessive entertainment/challenges.
